Melvin Heibel

Melvin J. Heibel, age 90, of Amery, Wis., formerly of Clear Lake, Wis., died on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Amery Regional Medical Center.

Melvin Joseph Heibel was born September 12, 1918 in Forest Township, St. Croix County, Wis., the son of John and Mary (Huber) Heibel. He grew up in the Clear Lake area, was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church, and attended Roosevelt country school.

Melvin was married to Genevieve M. Torgerson on October 28, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amery, and together they raised four children, Susan, Sharon, Roxanne and Rick. He lived on his family's homestead nearly all of his life and operated his dairy farm there for many years.

In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, and in his younger days, raising and riding horses. He especially loved visiting and socializing with his family and many friends. He was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Clear Lake and the Knights of Columbus for many years. In 2006, Melvin moved to Amery and became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Heibel, Amery; daughters and son, Susan (John) Hallacy, Morrison, Colo., Sharon (Bert) Petersen, Clear Lake, Roxanne (Jim) Anderson, Clayton, Wis., Rick (Vonette) Heibel, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Jane (Dan) Stephens, Renee (Eric) Rasmuson, Michael (Karla) Hallacy, Marilee (Steve) Hamilton, Christopher (Liane) Petersen, Brett Anderson, Shawn Proulx and Jackson Heibel; great-grandchildren, David and Rachel Stephens, Madeline and Nicholas Rasmuson, Hazel Hallacy, Samantha and Cooper Hamilton, Kate, Molly and Jack Petersen; sisters, Amelia Clemmens, Oceanside, Calif., Virginia (George) Edwards, Clayton; many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Heibel; brothers, Reinard, Frank, Gilbert and Roman; sisters, Margaret, Alice, Esther and Marie.

Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Amery, Friday, September 19, at 11 a.m. Celebrants were Fr. John Drummy, Fr. Leonard Fraher and Deacon Bud Heiser. Music was provided by Arlene Dado and St. Joseph's Choir. Casketbearers were Bud Edwards, Monty Edwards, Kenny Heibel, Jeff Jax, Jack Marrinan and Byron Torgerson. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home, Clear Lake, handled the arrangements.
