Vernon "Johnny" Jones, Sr. passed away July 27, 2001. Funeral services were held August 4 at the United Methodist Church in Deer Park. Interment was at the cemetery in Clear Lake where his ashes were laid to rest next to his parents. Johnny was a life long member of Cylon Township. He and his wife, Joyce, lived on the same farm in Deer Park their entire life.

VERNON W. "JOHNNY" JONES, SR.
Vernon W. Jones, Sr., age 83, life long resident of Cylon Township, WI., died early Friday morning, July 27, 2001, at his home.
Vernon Walter Jones was born on September 7, 1917 in Cylon Township, the son of Walter J. and Laura (Johnson) Jones. He grew up on the family farm and attended Edgewood School. Vernon was married to Joyce Shafer on March 22, 1944, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Together they operated a dairy farm east of Deer Park and raised 3 children. Lorraine, Sandra, and Vernon Jr. Vernon also worked at the creamery as a buttermaker and later as a foreman for Land O'Lakes. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and bird watching. Vernon also enjoyed reading, playing his accordion, playing cards and shooting pool. He especially loved spending time with his family and telling stories.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Laura Jones; twin sister, Vera; brothers, Lester and Myron.
Vernon W. Jones is survived by his wife Joyce Jones, Amery, WI; daughters and son: Lorraine (Ralph) Rimer, Hinckley, MN, Sandy (John E.) Miller, Center City, MN, and Vernon (Michelle) Jones, Jr., Deer Park, WI; 7 grandchildren: Denise (Ted) Cabak, White Bear Lake, MN, Jacqueline (Al) Broin, Cannon Falls, MN, Jennifer (Tim) Martin, Clear Lake, WI, Michael Miller, Albert Lea, MN, Vernon R. (Stephanie) Jones, New Richmond, WI, Brian Miller, Center City, MN, and Brad Miller, Maplewood, MN; 7 great-grandchildren: Jordan and Jacob Cabak, Nathan and Sydney Jones, Brittany and Dylan Leslie, and Mackenzie Martin; sister, Margaret Bacon, Puyallup, WA.
A memorial service was held for Vernon W. Jones at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the United Methodist Church, Deer Park, Wi. Pastor Terri Koca officiated, organist was Janet Sikkink and vocalist was Lorraine Rimer. Honorary casketbearers were Vernon R. Jones, Al Broin, Michael Miller, Ted Cabak, Brad Miller, Tim Miller, and Brian Miller. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, WI. Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home of Clear Lake handled the arrangements.
