GERHARDT C. SCHULTZ

Rites for Gerhardt C. Schultz, 86, Clear Lake, were Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran church, Clear Lake. Pastor Ellery Groth officiated with Judy Weber as organist.

Casketbearers were Steve Balesik, Alan Horwath, Lester Frank, Tom Wirtz, Dale Wood and Darren Wirtz.

Military honors were given by Clear Lake Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment was in the Clear Lake cemetery with Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gerhardt C. Schultz died Thursday morning, April 10, at Golden Age Manor, Amery, where he had been a resident the last 16 months.

He was born in Deer Park on May 31, 1916, the son of William and Amelia (Hammelman) Schultz.

He attended school in Deer Park, was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran church, Deer Park.

He grew up in the Deer Park area and worked on the family farm with his parents.

In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict until 1953. When he returned, he went to Ely, Minn., where he worked in logging camps. In 1959, he moved to Alaska where he worked as a logger until 1962.

Upon his return to Wisconsin, he married Martha (DeBoer) Sempf on October 20, 1962, at Forest township. He joined Martha in the grocery business at the Lake Magnor Store in Richardson. In 1970 they sold the business and built a home in Amery. He worked for the city of Amery from 1970 until 1974.

The Schultz's then began spending their winters in Arizona. In 1989, they sold their house in Amery and moved to Clear Lake where he was a member of Grace Lutheran church and the Clear Lake VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Amelia Schultz; three brothers, Edward, Elmer and Clarence Schultz; sister, Florence Leavith; and grandson, Larry Frank. He is survived by his wife, Martha Schultz of Clear Lake; stepdaughter, Berdenne Frank and Alan Horwath of Danbury; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
