Gustav Emil Sempf

DEER PARK-- Gustav Emil Sempf, 75, was born in Germany on April 1, 1865. He came to this country in 1881, settling down in St. Paul. Six years later on May 5, 1887, he married Mary Goenstke and in 1900 they moved to this community, living first in the Town of Cylon, then in the Town of Emerald, back to Cylon, next to Clear Lake, and, since the fall of 1934, in the village of Deer Park.

Mr. Sempf was the father of nine children, four sons and five daughters. One daughter, Gertrude, died in 1910; Mrs. Sempf preceded her husband in death on May 29, 1935.

Their surviving children are the four sons, Emil, Arthur and William of Clear Lake, and Herman of Clayton, and the four daughters, Mrs. Lilly Schultz of Stillwater, Mrs. Amelia Wolfe of New Richmond, Mrs. Martha Rolstad of Glenwood City, and Mrs. Mamie Jarchow of the Town of Stanton. There are, moreover, twenty grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Mr. Sempf also leaves to mourn his rather sudden death one sister, Mrs. Frank Weiss, St. Paul.

Mr. Sempf took sick about three weeks ago. During his apparently slight illness, his heart grew steadily weaker. A week before his death, he was taken to the home of his daughter in Stanton where he passed quietly away on Friday forenoon, October 11, 1940 at the age of seventy-five years, six months and ten days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 14 at the home at 1:15 P.M. and at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church at two, with the Reverend W. E. Maas, Mr. Sempf's pastor, officiating at both services.

J. Weiss, Miss Ella Jarchow, Mrs. J. LaValley, Mrs. M. H. Ditezman, Mrs. Harold Weiss, Mr. and Mrs. A. Mrs. H. C. Jacobsen and Mrs. Jerry Gifford assisted with the serving of the lunch to all who came from a distance to the funeral.
