Wallace Chester Setter
July 5, 1911-December 28, 1982

Wallace Chester Setter was born in Alden Township of Polk County, Wisconsin on July 5, 1911, the son of Paul and Annette Setter. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. He attended Lakeside School in Alden Township, then Deer Park School, graduating from New Richmond High School in the class of 1929. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a short time. He then worked at Greenwood, Wisconsin and Osceola, Wisconsin before buying the farm 4 1/2 miles east of Deer Park, Wisconsin in Cylon Township. On June 3, 1939, at the Hammond Methodist Church, he was united in marriage to Irene Delia Mentink. To this union eight children were born. Wallace died at the Apple River Valley Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning, December 28, 1982 at the age of 71 years. Wallace was a very progressive farmer being one of the first ones to dry baled hay and also had a high production herd. He was very active in his community serving on the Clear Lake School Board, Treasurer of Cylon Township, County Committeeman of the A.S.C.S. board. He was also active in his church serving as a Lay Leader, Lay Minister, and as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He lived on the same farm until his death. Wallace was proud of his Norwegian heritage, making four trips to Norway and being able to read, write and speak Norsk. Cross country skiing was also a hobby. His four loves were; 1) his family, 2) his church, 3) his heritage, and 4) his farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Prescott and Nels and one sister, Agnes.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Irene; five sons - Paul Setter of Dallas, Texas, Elden Setter of Houston, Texas, Dr. Timothy Setter of Ithaca, New York, Gary Setter of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and George Setter of Deer Park, Wisconsin; three daughters - Sandra (James) Kemp of Neenah, Wisconsin, Judy (David L.) Johnson of Anoka, Minnesota and Randi (Dean) Sommerfeld of St. Joseph, Michigan; five brothers - Lloyd Setter, A. Lincoln Setter, Ray Setter, Vernon Setter, and Russell Setter, all of Deer Park; three sisters - Maye (William) Knerr of Vista, Calif., Margaret (Harry) Grossman of Citrus Springs, Florida and Nettie (Erling) Lundeen of Fargo, North Dakota. He also leaves six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren besides many other realtives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Deer Park Methodist Church on Friday, December 31, 1982 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Roy Johnson officiating. Lou A. Williamson sang a Norwegian song accompanied by Jane Johnson. Pallbearers were Wallace's sons and sons-in-law. Spring interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Deer Park, Wisconsin with the Williamson Funeral Home of Amery, Wisconsin in charge of arrangements.
