John Charles Severson was born April 16, 1937 to Mable and Emil Severson of rural Deer Park. He passed away at the age of 61 years on February 9, 1999.
John was a life-long resident of the Deer Park area and was considered one of the pillars of the community being very active in community and church functions. He was a Trustee of the Village of Deer Park for many years, the Village Constable and a fireman in the Deer Park Fire Department for decades. But one of his biggest community contributions was his work on the Village Park in Deer Park. Today the park lives on with a year round display of deer, fireworks and live entertainment near the 4th of July holiday and it is used by many other organizations for their outdoor events.
John was one of Deer Park's Main Street businessmen and operated the Amoco Service Station for about 10 years beginning in 1959. Later on he was employed by Northern States Power Company in Amery as a service tech for 26 years. He was in the U.S. Army with active duty in the Berlin Airlift and remained in the National Guard for decades serving in the New Richmond unit.
On November 4, 1958 he was united in marriage to Ruth L. Warner. To this union four sons were born, Arlyn (Denise) Severson, Greg (Kris) Severson, Dan (Missy) Severson and John (Jewel) Severson.
John is survived by his wife Ruth, his sons, Arlyn (Denise), Greg (Kris), Dan (Missy) and John (Jewel), his sister, Mavis (Lawrence) Croes and many grandchildren.
