LAURA SIMONSON
August 30, 1918 - January 1, 2009

Laura Georgia Simonson died at Glenhaven Nursing Home in Glenwood City, Wis. on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the age of 90 years.

Laura was born on August 30, 1918 at her family home in Dunn County, Wis., the daughter of Albert and Ruby Blosmoe.

She was united in marriage to Melvin J. Simonson and to this union seven children were born. Laura loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was blessed with good health except for an appendectomy at age 15, cataracts, and in recent years, a broken hip.

At age 80 she easily climbed the small black metal steps to the very top of Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore. She lived in her own house for nearly 70 years. During that time there were no fires, floods or tornados.

She was a talented seamstress, making many colorful piece quilts. Laura was a wonderful cook and successful gardener. Her delicious and nutritious home cooked meals were enjoyed by many, especially her children. She did not overuse or abuse the earth's resources.

During her life she enjoyed visits to the Grand Ol' Opry, Mexico and other interesting sites. She waded the beaches on both the East and West coasts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Simonson; daughter Bonnie Mae Steinert; two great-grandchildren and siblings.

Left to mourn are her six children: Sheldon (Ruth) Simonson, Everett Simonson, Sharon Fortunak, Judy (Matt) Brockway, Gloria Jean (Kenrad) Anderson, Rodney J. Simonson; sister Carol Yager; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at noon at the Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery with Pastor Ken Kuziej officiating. Soloist was Dixie Teig. Organist was Shirley Ganter. Casketbearers were her grandsons, Doug Simonson, Daryl Simonson, Duane Simonson, Sean Brockway, Jeff Anderson, Jason Anderson, Kelly Steinert, Mike Maes and Terry Steinert. Burials was at the Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.

The Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Amery assisted the family with arrangements.

Soloist was Dixie Teig and organist was Shirley Ganter.

Casketbearers were her grandsons, Doug Simonson, Daryl Simonson, Duane Simonson, Sean Brockway, Jeff Anderson, Jason Anderson, Kelly Steinert, Mike Maes and Terry Steinert. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.

Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Amery assisted the family with arrangements.
