Wisconsin businessman George Sinclear dies;
was active in county

Funeral services for George W. Sinclear of New Richmond, Wis., chairman of the Somerset Town Board and a member of the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors, will be held Wednesday in New Richmond.

Sinclear, owner of Somerset Transportation Co., died Saturday at United Hospital in St. Paul following heart bypass surgery. He was 61.

Sinclear chaired the Transportation Committee of the St. Croix County Board. He owned and operated Somerset Oil Co., a bulk delivery service and gas station, from 1969-84. His transportation company has provided busing for the Somerset School District since 1976.

He also owned and operated the Apple Eatery on the Apple River in Somerset, a popular stopping place for those tubing on the river.

Sinclear was described by his daughter Denise as a man who gave a lot to his community. He was instrumental in preserving the St. Croix County Health Center in New Richmond, a county-run nursing home and health facility.

He was born November 8, 1937, in Cumberland, Wis. Sinclear was a member of North Star Masonic Lodge No. 187 in Star Prairie; St. Croix Valley Shrine Club; Zor Temple of Madison; and Scottish Rite, Valley of Eau Claire.

He is survived by his wife, Marian; daughters Denise of St. Croix Falls, Mary (Mrs. Gary) Prazich of Lino Lakes and Anne Marie and friend Jason Prokop of Somerset; mother, Margaret Sinclear, and sister, Mary Ellen (Mrs. Lowell) Banks, both of Superior; and a grandson, Jack Prazich.

Services will be at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church and at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church or the Somerset Memorial Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.
