Friends organize benefit for Stanton man

Robin Lindus says that town of Stanton resident Michael Frank “is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet.”

Not only that, but Frank has made what Lindus said was “a gazillion friends” during the almost 30 years he has lived in the rural area between Deer Park and New Richmond.

So when Mike developed cancer of the larynx earlier this year, Lindus decided to help.

Within the past week she and others associated with the Crossroads Restaurant (at the Four Corners of U.S. Highway 63 and state Highways 46 and 64) have organized a one-day benefit for Frank, complete with auctions, sales and food.

The event begins at 2 p.m. May 23 and the public is welcome.

Lindus, a co-owner of the restaurant, said Frank has not worked for several months while he copes with the illness, but he has been employed at Lampert Yards in Woodbury and, before that, Peterson Construction.

Ten years ago, Frank, a Hammond-area native, had a bout with Hodgkins disease but went into remission after treatment.

However, this latest incident has friends and family concerned and willing to help.

“Mike would be the first one to step up if this kind of event were being held for someone else,” said Lindus.

Plans aren’t complete yet, but the day’s events will include a consignment auction (donations are welcome), a drawing with grand prizes donated by Lindus Construction and Peterson Construction, 50-50 drawings, a meat raffle and outdoor games for kids and adults.
