National Guard remains on ‘alert’

The National Guard unit based out of New Richmond continues to remain on alert, according to Lt. Colonel Tim Donovan, who is the official spokesperson for the local unit.

Bravo Company 1-128 Infantry unit, which is part of the 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry out of Eau Claire, went on alert in early March. At that time, Donovan said that the alert notification was announced to give soldiers and their families enough lead time to take care of personal affairs before a possible call-up to active duty.

Eighty members make up the Guard unit at New Richmond. If activated, the unit could be deployed to Iraq, possibly to relieve other units completing active duty there, according to published reports in metropolitan newspapers.
