Authorities have released more details of a tragic car crash Sunday night in Polk County that claimed the life of a teenager. 17-year old Katie Knowlten of Forest Lake, Minnesota was driving on County Road C, west of Amery when she apparently went through the stop sign at the junction of county road F. Knowlton's vehicle was hit broadside by a car driven by 34-year old Amy Hayes of Clayton. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s department, Knowlton and her two passengers, 18-year old Jesse Bagley of Amery and 17 year old Mike Bruseletten of Deer Park were taken by ambulance to the Amery Regional Medical Center where Knowlten was pronounced dead. Mike Bruseletten was airlifted to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities with serious injuries, and Bagley remained at ARMC. Hayes’s injuries were not believed to be severe. The crash forced the closure of highways F and C for several hours while investigators worked at the scene. Some of the victims were employees of the Amery A&W restaurant, which was closed on Monday. Amery Fire Department, Amery Police, Amery and Clear Lake ambulances and the Polk County Sheriffs department all responded to the scene. The crash occurred at about 9:15 Sunday evening.
