A spark from a burning barrel is being blamed for starting a fire that burned about 250 acres near Roberts on Saturday. Fire Departments from United Fire in Roberts, Baldwin and Hammond and Departments from Spring Valley, Hudson, Glenwood City, New Richmond, St. Josephs Township, Deer Park and Somerset, plus two Minnesota departments and an airplane from the Minnesota DNR all were called to help battle the blaze just outside of Roberts near the game farm. The fire burned for several hours as the many departments helped protect nearby structures and extinguish the fire. The call came in around 3pm Saturday afternoon and burned 250 acres before being put out. So many resources were used, that the Amery Fire Department stood by to cover fire calls for neighboring Deer Park while there department assisted with the wildfire. A plane from the Minnesota DNR also was scene drafting water from nearby Cedar Lake as well. No one was injured, and no structures were damage. Officials are still investigating the Fire.
