Two accidents at railroad crossing in past month A second person has died as a result of a truck versus train accident last week in Cylon Township. Nicole Nyquist, 22, died last Wednesday afternoon in an Eau Claire hospital after remaining on life support for five days following the Nov. 23 accident.

Nyquist, of Woodville, was a passenger in the truck. The driver of the truck, 22-year-old Joshua Lynum, also of Woodville, died shortly after the accident at a St. Paul hospital. According to reports from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, the truck Lynum was driving collided with a Wisconsin Central Railroad freight train at 9:10 p.m. on 215th street, one-half mile south of Highway 64 in the Township of Cylon.

Lynum was transported to Holy Family Hospital and then airlifted to Regions Medical Center, where he died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday morning. Nyquist was also transported to Holy Family Hospital before being airlifted to Eau Claire. The train engineer was not injured.

The accident marks the second car versus train accident at that crossing in the past month. Another man was injured at the crossing Nov. 3 when he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to stop for a train.

Timothy D. Spencer, of Prescott, received unknown injuries as a result of that accident. According to reports, Spencer's vehicle went into the ditch and struck the first engine of the train. Spencer was not transported to the hospital. There was extensive damage to the truck, but minor damage to the train, according to reports. County officials said while the accidents were unfortunate, they believe they were unrelated and not due to any safety problem at the crossing. The railroad crossing is not a hazard, county officials said.
