Donald Herbert Christiansen, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Signet Health and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond.
Don was born April 4, 1919, the youngest child of Reverend J. E. and Carrie Krageland Christiansen in Humboldt, Iowa. He grew up in Milltown; LaCrosse; Newell, Iowa; Cadott; and New Richmond, as his father served churches in those communities. He attended New Richmond High School.
He was drafted in 1942 and served as Corporal in the Army-Air Force in Hawaii and Saipan, as an airplane mechanic repairing bombers.
After he was discharged, he returned to New Richmond and married Janet Williamson on Nov. 8, 1945. Janet and Don were married for forty-four years. She passed away on March 1, 1990.
Don apprenticed with a local electrician and had his own electrical business. He then worked for Nor-Lake, Inc. and he retired in 1981. Don was active at First Baptist Church and the New Richmond American Legion, Post #80.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Thorvald (T.P.); Ann; Esther and Arthur.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Virginia Soderstrom, Gerold Christiansen, James Christiansen, Jerane Snyder, Gloria Osborne; Reverend Gary Nelson; cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, (Thursday, Sept. 26) at Beebe Funeral Home, New Richmond, with visitation from 12-1 p.m. Pastor Kevin Morris of First Baptist Church will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Robert Goodlad, Charles Goodlad, Rupert (Sonny) Sanasac, Daniel Lien, Glen Osborne and Bruce DeLong.
Arrangements by Beebe Mortuary, New Richmond.
