Ronald Cleveland

Ronald LeRoy Cleveland, age 61, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin died suddenly on Friday, December 7, 2007 in St. Paul.

Ron was born September 18, 1946, the son of Bernard and Patricia (Nokk) Cleveland in Monticello, Minn. He grew up in Hudson and after high school entered the U.S. Navy where he received his G.E.D. Ron served six years in the Navy, including two years in Vietnam. He was a member of Navy Seal Team 1.

On November 13, 1970, Ron married Nancy (Plum) Cleveland at the Methodist church in Deer Park, Wis. Nancy (Plum) Cleveland is the daughter of John and Esther Plum of Deer Park. They were blessed with two children: Adam and Amber.

Ron was co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America 331. He was also a member of V.V.A. Chapters 62 and 5, the D.A.V., V.F.W., and and the American Legion. Ron worked at the River Falls School Bus Garage, S.E. Metro and Midway Ford Company. He continued his education and in 1990 received a masters in vocational rehabilitation from UW-Stout. He worked for Catholic Charities, the State of Wisconsin Homeless Project and the Wisconsin Veterans Administration.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Spring Valley; son Adam (Kamsey) Cleveland of Menomonie; daughter Amber Cleveland; three brothers, Bernard Cleveland of St. Paul, Minn., Michael (Robin) Cleveland of River Falls, and Patrick (Alicia) Cleveland of Woodbury, Minn.; one sister, Carol (Steve) Ryland of Bayport; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Smith of Cottage Grove, Janice (Larry) Haywood of Tacoma, Wash., Patty (Greg) Maciaszek of Sammamish, Wash.; many fellow veterans, friends, and the many people he loved.

Visitation was on Wednesday from 3--8 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Funeral service was on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. at St. John's with Rev. Christine Schneewind officiating. Mary Nelson was organist. Pallbearers were Michael Cleveland, Peter Martin, Lanny Johnson, Nic Cleveland, Mark Spiess, Scott Spiess, David Hohler, Randy Hohler, Steve Hohler, Patty Fenstermaker, and Rich Timmerman.

Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley handled arrangements.
