Laura E. Hammelman

Laura E. Hammelman, 97, of Amery, formerly of New Richmond and Deer Park, died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home of Amery.

Laura Eve Hammelman was born December 29, 1903 in Brown County, Kansas, the daughter of Christian and Anna (Lange) Kirschbaum. Laura was baptized on January 4, 1904 in Hiawatha, Kansas. When she was young, Laura moved with her family to Granite Falls, Minn. where she attended school. Laura was confirmed on August 25, 1918 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.

Shortly after, she moved to Hatchville, near Spring Valley, Wis., where she met Arthur Hammelman. They were married June 5, 1923 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hatchville and raised five children, Dorothy, Bernard, Raymond, Louella, and Richard.

Together they operated a dairy farm in the Deer Park area for many years. When Arthur died in June, 1968, Laura remained on the farm until 1979. She then moved to New Richmond.

Laura enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, raising chickens on her farm, and was very involved in birthday and community celebrations. She was devoted to her family and her church. Laura was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Deer Park. She had been a resident of Golden Age Manor Nursing Home of Amery since 1995.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband Arthur; parents Christian and Anna Kirschbaum; sons Raymond and Richard; brothers Henry and Alvin Kirschbaum; daughter-in-law Ginger Hammelman; son-in-law Robert Olson; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn, Lydia and Celia Kirschbaum.

Laura is survived by her daughters Dorothy Olsen, Janesville, Wis., Louella (Perry) Biederman, St. Paul, Minn.; son Bernard (Norma) Hammelman, Amery; nine grandchildren, David (Sheryl) Olsen, Mary Olsen, Joyce (Kevin) Krumm, Jane (Jerol) Johnson, Marcia Hammelman, Tara (Dennis) Erickson, Tia (Roy) Chabot, Tim Hammelman, Terry (Gene) Gutman; 14 great-grandchildren, Alicia, Kyle and Karl Krumm, Sam and Ryan Johnson, Carolyn and Robert Hagen, Marika and Cody Chabot, David and Matthew Hammelman, Anna, Catherine, and Christine Gutman; brother Harold of Union, Ore.; and daughter-in-law Lois Hammelman, Deer Park.

Funeral services for Laura Hammelman were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Deer Park Thursday, March 1, 2001 with Rev. Tim Coppersmith officiating.

Organists were Marcia Hammelman and Jane Johnson and vocalist was Jerol Johnson.

Casketbearers were Roy Chabot, Gene Gutman, Tim Hammelman, Jerol Johnson, Kevin Krumm, and David Olsen.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.

Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Services for Laura E. Hammelman, 97, Amery, were Thursday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Deer Park. The Rev. Tim Coppersmith officiated.

Soloist was Jerol Johnson with organists, Marcia Hammelman and Jane Johnson.

Casketbearers were Roy Chabot, Jerol Johnson, Kevin Krumm, David Olsen, Tim Hammelman and Gene Gutman.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Deer Park, with Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home assisting the family.

She is survived by daughters and son, Dorothy Olsen of Janesville, Bernard (Norma) Hammelman of Amery and Louella (Perry) Biederman of St. Paul; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold of Union, Oregon.
