Marion L. Hawksford

Marion L. Hawksford, age 91, formerly of the Clear Lake area, died Thursday, August 16, 2001 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI, where she had resided since 1997.

Marion was born October 20, 1909 in the township of Forest, WI to Harvey L. and Edith (Bixby) Warner. She grew up on the family farm in the township of Glenwood, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at the Forest Methodist Church. Marion attended the Rodis School in the township of Glenwood and graduated from the Glenwood City High School. She earned a 2 year degree in education from the River Falls Normal School. She later attended summer and evening classes and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1961. After receiving her degree she taught at a one room school in Hudson, Connorsville and the New Richmond area. Marion married Edward Hawksford on June 5, 1931 at the Forest Methodist Church. Together they had 3 children; Francis, Robert and Mary. They made their home on the Hawksford family farm near Deer Park, WI, working together on the farm, raising a family, and visiting relatives and friends. Marion taught at the Elementary School in Clear Lake, WI for 22 years before retiring in 1972. They moved into Clear Lake in 1959, where they lived for 10 years before returning to the farm. In 1976 they bought a retirement home on the Apple River in Amery, WI, where they lived until 1990 when they moved to Hudson, WI. Marion was a lifelong active member of the Forest Methodist Church, but attended the Clear Lake Methodist Church during the time they lived in Clear Lake. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Rebekah Lodge, andnthe Methodist Women's Society. She was also active with the local Senior Citizen's and several women's prayer groups while living in Amery.

Marion was a thoughtful and giving wife and mother, a dedicated teacher, and avid gardener. She loved spending time with her family, researching family history, and growing beautiful flowers in her garden. Her family and friends will miss her tables filled with flowers, coffee, and sweet treats.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward in 1997 after 66 years of marriage; sister Anna Johnson; and great grandson Derrick Peper.

Marion is survived by 3 children: Francis Hawksford and wife Sharon of Deer Park, WI, Robert Hawksford and wife Catherine of Hudson, Wi Mary Johnson and husband Morris of Hudson, WI; 3 sisters- Esther Simonson and husband Silas of Orange, CA, Nell Fitzer and husband Russell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Elaine Whinnery and husband Galen of Menomonie, WI; 2 brothers - Frank Warner and wife Donna of Glenwood City, WI and Allen Warner and wife Ardys of Emerald, WI; 10 grandchildren- Sheri Kujak and husband Paul, Lori Peper and husband Richard, Thomas Hawksford and wife Mary, James Hawksford and wife Alexandra, Edward C. Hawksford, Peter Hawksford and wife Lynn, Elizabeth Hawksford and fiance' Paul Schaefer, Melissa Benoy and husband Shane, Heidi Decker and husband Timothy and Eric Johnson and wife Karen; 15 great-grandchildren; further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at the Forest Methodist Church, Forest, WI. With Reverend Terri Koca officiated. Burial was in the Cylon Cemetery, Cylon, WI. Special music by grandchildren. Pallbearers served by grandsons. The Everts Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
