Charles Allen "Charlie" Newton

Charles Allen "Charlie" Newton, age 43, of Hammond, WI, and formerly of Roberts, died suddenly Wednesday, February 3, at the Baldwin Hospital. He was brought to the hospital earlier that morning by ambulance. He had been ill for several years with complications of Diabetes. Charlie was born on November 7, 1955 in River Falls; the son of Joseph and Dorothea (Eggert) Newton. He attended grade school in Hudson and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1973.

Following high school, Charlie operated the family farm for several years following the death of his father. After this, he was employed as a truck driver and worked for Junkans in Clear Lake hauling milk. He also drove truck for Jones Chemical in Hudson and most recently for Wayne Transport out of Inver Grove Heights. Illness caused an early retirement. Charlie was united in marriage to Jackie Vanest on November 7, 1976 in Elmwood. This union was blessed with two children. The children were raised in Roberts and Hammond. This marriage ended in divorce several years later. In 1984, Charlie married Bev (Campbell) Wolff. The couple divorced in 1994.

Charlie took great pride in driving truck. He and his boys waxed his truck every weekend. Furthermore, he received many awards for his excellent driving record. He also enjoyed helping his friend Don Greenfield on his farm. He liked reminiscing about farming; especially farming equipment and tractors. As a result, he has many model tractors. Moreover, he also liked fishing, and watching wrestling, roller derby, and the Green Bay Packers on the television. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Charlie is survived by his sons Michael Newton of Hammond, WI and Charles Newton, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri; mother Dorothea (Eggert) Newton of Baldwin; sisters Patricia (Bob) Spoentgen of Clear Lake, WI and Susan Miskanis of Spencer, Wisconsin; brother Richard (Rosie) Newton of Baldwin, Wisconsin; one grandchild; nieces and nephews.
