John Olson

John Olson was born in Vestre Slidre, Norway, April 12, 1856 and died August 19, 1921, at his home near Deer Park, after one year of failing health. He came to America in 1875, going to Decorah, Iowa, where he lived two years and then took up a homestead at Mahtowa, Minn. There he was married to Ingaborg Olson, July 5, 1886. In 1891 they moved to Deer Park and bought a farm, where he resided until his death, his wife preceding him in death ten years ago.

Shortly after coming to Deer Park he united with the Methodist church and later with the Cylon church. He was a man of quiet nature and a good father. He is survived by six children: Gudnie, Otto, John, Charles, Eda (Mrs. Raymond Fouks) and Emma (Mrs. Roy Todd). Also a brother Ole A. Nesja of Thief River Falls, Minn., two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Severson of Black Brook, the other living in Norway, and one grandchild, besides nieces and nephews. His children and his brother were all at his bedside when he passed away. Funeral services were held at Deer Park M. E. church Monday, Rev. A.S. Gilbert of New Richmond, and Rev. H. Folkestad officiating. The pall bearers were A.L. Hilyar, George Williamson, Frank Jones, Sr., Oluf Olson, John Lehne and Hans O. Hanson.
