BETTE M. JOHNSTON PICKARD
June 1, 1923 - July 27, 2010

Bette Marie Pickard, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.

Bette, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Knoll, was born June 1, 1923, in Whitehall, Wis. On July 25, 1941, she was united in marriage with William H. Johnston at Deer Park, Wis. They farmed in the Deer Park area until 1973 and later lived in rural Clear Lake.

After William's death, Bette married Loren Pickard, and moved to Clayton, Wis. In November 2009, she and Loren moved to Riverbend Assisted Living in Amery, Wis.

Bette is survived by her husband, Loren Pickard of Amery; son, Bruce of Mazeppa, Minn., and daughter-in-law, Coleen; daughter, Joy Britain of Clear Lake, Wis., and son-in-law, Norman; daughter, Jan Lind of Somerset, Wis., and son-in-law, Jeff. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Heidi (Travis) Britain Renfro of Olathe, Kan., Paul (Jenney) Britain of Stoughton, Wis., Sarah Johnston, Northfield, Minn., Patrick Johnston, Somerville, Ma. Her five great-grandchildren are Ellie, Dane and Abby Britain, and Samantha and Blake Renfro. Her brother, David Knoll of Ellsworth, Wis., and her sister, Lois Rudd of Hammond, Wis., also survive.

The funeral service for Bette Pickard was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Forest, Wis., with Rev. Michael Scholz officiating.

Scheuermann-Hammer Funeral Home in Clear Lake handled the arrangements.
