STANLEY UTGAARD

Stanley UtgaardStanley "Stine" Utgaard, 83, of Star Prairie died February 24, 1996, at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in New Richmond.

Stanley was born April 22, 1912, in Star Prairie to Brady and Caroline (Christianson) Utgaard. On March 19, 1932, he married Evelyn Johnson in Hudson.

Stanley was the owner/operator of Utgaard Hatchery in Star Prairie. He was a member and past master of North Star Lodge 187 F. & A.M. and a life member of both the Zor Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Eau Claire organizations. He served several terms as the village president and as president of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Over the past years, Stanley received numerous awards and honors in the poultry industry. He served as president of the Wisconsin Hatchery Association almost continuously from 1958-1988. In 1971, he co-founded the Midwest Poultry Federation and was elected president in 1982-83.

On March 21, 1991, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison presented its prestigious Award of Distinction to Stanley in appreciation of his highly meritorious service to agriculture and rural life. On April 9, 1991, the Wisconsin Senate issued a commendation citation to Stanley for his tremendous contributions to the United States poultry industry, Wisconsin agriculture and rural life.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Alfred, Dewey, Charles, John, Bert and Clifford; two sisters, Bertha (Helmer) Johnson and Margaret (Ted) Anderson; and two grandchildren, Greg and Mark Schnell.

Stanley is survived by his wife Evelyn, a resident at the Maple Manor Healthcare Center in New Richmond; one daughter, Carolyn (Lou) Larson of Finlayson, Minn.; one son, Stuart Brady (Kim) Utgaard of Star Prairie; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Olive (Clarence) Polfus of New Richmond and Lucille (Lester) Giese of Star Prairie.

Visitation waas held Wednesday, February 28, 1996, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beebe Mortuary, with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. by North Star Lodge 187 F.&A.M.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday, February 29) at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Star Prairie with Rev. Carla Grabanski officiating. Music will be provided by organist Carrie Peterson and vocalist Jeanine Carlson.

Pallbearers will be Curt Anderson, Owen Anderson, Lou Arrington, Virgil Estes, Wes Matthys and Clifford Nelson.

Spring interment in Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.
