A 55-year-old Deer Park resident was killed after a motorcycle accident on Saturday, Sept. 12.

On Sept. 12 at 3:54 p.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a motorcycle crash on County Road S, south of 113th Ave. in Osceola Township.

A 1998 Harley Davidson cycle was north bound on County Road S and was being operated by James Hougdahl, 55, Deer Park. The passenger was identified as Abbey Himlie, 7, of Osceola.

The cycle, for unknown reasons, veered off the roadway and struck a rock causing the driver to lose control and crash.

Hougdahl died at the scene as a result of his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Himlie was transported by ambulance to the St. Croix Regional Medical Center, and air lifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment of her injuries. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Emergency medical personnel from Osceola and St. Croix Falls were dispatched as well as the Dresser Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Medical Examiners Office.

This is Polk County’s seventh traffic fatality, and fourth motorcycle fatality of the year.
