A preliminary hearing is set to take place today for a Cylon man who is facing a felony charge in connection with an alleged assault on his elderly father.

St. Croix County prosecutors filed formal charges against the 41 year-old man, last week. He faces one count of aggravated battery to the elderly and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Prosecutors say the man assaulted his 67-year-old father April 15 at a home in the 1800 block of 235th Street. The victim waited several days to report the assault because, he reportedly told sheriff’s deputies, he was afraid he would be “beaten up again” if his son learned of the police report.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim was punched in the stomach and jerked around by his forearms before being shoved into a wall.

The victim, who undergoes daily oxygen treatments for an unrelated medical condition, suffered bruising and lacerations as a result of the alleged incident. Deputies on the scene reported a three-inch gash on the victim’s arm.

In a statement to deputies, the man reportedly acknowledged the assault, saying he was arguing with his father over money and “just lost it.”

He spent several days in the St. Croix County jail before being released on a $5,000 signature bond. St. Croix County Circuit Judge Eric Lundell has ordered him to have no contact with his father pending the outcome of the charges against him.

The man has not yet entered a plea in the case.
