Polk County authorities have released more details and the names of the people involved in Thursday’s multi-vehicle crash south of Amery. That crash occurred about three miles south of Amery on State Highway 46, near 20th Avenue. According to the sheriff’s office, 19-year-old Robert Barnes of Siren was southbound on Highway 46 when he veered over the centerline and struck a car driven by 47-year-old Gail Shaleen of Deer Park, and then ricocheted off that car and hit a car driven by 49-year-old Bryan L. Jones of New Richmond head-on. Shaleen and her passenger, 16-year-old Scott Shaleen suffered only minor injuries, but the other three individuals in the crash suffered serious injuries. Barnes and his passenger, 34-year-old Shawn Bird of Webster, as well as Bryan Jones, were all transported to Amery Regional Medical Center, and later transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Their condition has now been released. Shawn Bird has been released from the hospital, while Robert Barnes is listed in good condition, but Bryan Jones remains at the hospital in serious condition. Investigation into the crash continues.Three people escaped serious injury, but did get rather cold after the pickup truck they were in rolled over early this (Thursday) morning. The rollover occurred on county road JJ about ½ mile north of County road J, just east of Amery at about 12:30am. Apparently, a truck driven by 23-year old Mary Koenick of Clear Lake hit a patch of ice and overturned in the ditch. There were two passengers in the truck along with Koenick, 20- year old Ryan Woodoff and 19-year old Josh Kuhn of Deer Park. When the vehicle overturned, one of the passengers arm got pinned underneath the truck, trapping him in the 10 degree below zero temperatures. A passerby was able to free the man by using a car jack to lift the truck off the victims arm. Luckily, none of the victims needed to be taken to the hospital. The Amery Ambulance and Fire Department, and Polk county Sheriff’s Department all responded to the scene.
