AMERY FREE PRESS: Thomas Cahill, 15,
rural Amery, was waterskipping on Lake Wapogasset near Leverty's Landing when
he was struck by another snowmobile. The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m.
on Monday, Feb. 3. The open water was located about 100 yards west of the
boat access ramp. It was about three feet deep. Polk County Deputy Tamara
Larson reported that Cahill's sled was being closely followed by a snowmobile
opearated by Jeffrey Wassberg, 17, rural Clear Lake. The deputy said that
Cahill's snowmobile failed to clear the water. As it sunk, Wassberg attempted
to steer around Cahill. However, a ski on the snowmobile hit Cahill's leg,
breaking it in several places.
