Two snowmobilers escaped injury in an accident last Sunday night. According to a Police Report, two snowmobilers, Troy Nadeau and Stephen Schluter, both of Saint Paul, were parked along the side of the Gander Dancer Trail, north of Frederic, repairing one of their sleds. While they were working, two other snowmobiles approached at a high rate of speed. One collided with both of the sleds, throwing the driver out into the trail. The other driver, unable to slow down, bailed off of his sled, which then hit a tree. Responding deputies found 30-year-old Chad Canopy of Osceola and a 21-year-old Deer Park man were both over the legal blood-alcohol limit and arrested for operating a snowmobile while intoxicated. Canopy, the driver who collided with the other two snowmobiles, was treated at the Saint Croix Regional Medical Center for a minor ankle sprain before being taken to the Polk County Jail. Canopy and the Deer Park man were estimated traveling at about 65 miles an hour when the accident happened.
