A 20-year-old man from Amery was killed and his 50-year-old father died in a helicopter-ambulance en route to the hospital Wednesday night after a three-vehicle crash on Wisconsin Hwy. 65 near 220th Avenue in the town of Star Prairie. The accident took place just before 8 p.m. about a half-mile south of the Star Prairie village limits.

According to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department, a car driven by a 31 year old, Deer Park woman, was going south on Hwy. 65 half a mile north of 220th Avenue when it struck a car being driven by Andrew D. Jorgenson, 20, Amery. The Jorgenson vehicle then struck a truck driven by Barry N. Ausen, 33, Star Prairie.

Andrew Jorgenson was pronounced dead at the scene. David Jorgenson was airlifted to Regions Hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:39 p.m. Ausen, Lundquist and a passenger in her car, Hali A. Lundquist, 9, were transported to Holy Family Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The accident remains under investigation.

This is the third serious accident in less than a month along a heavily-traveled, 3.5-mile stretch of Hwy. 65 between New Richmond and Star Prairie. On July 9, 45-year-old Diane M. Meyer died when her vehicle went out of control and rolled several times while traveling north on Hwy. 65 near 210th Avenue. Five people were injured July 27 when a car and a Jeep Cherokee collided at the same intersection.

The highway was widened and resurfaced in 1999, with wider shoulders and a bicycle/pedestrian lane added on either side.
